2008-2009 FORT COLLINS BRANCH PROGRAMS

“BUILDING A SAFE AND

WELCOMING COMMUNITY”

All Branch meetings will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1709 W. Elizabeth, Fort Collins from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

WPC is west of CSU on the south side of Elizabeth between Constitution and Skyline. Enter at the south door on the west side.

Board meetings will be held Thursdays before Branch meetings at the same church from 4-5 p.m. (in the library).

 

Saturday, September 6

AAUW-Community Activities and Involvement.  Come, meet friends and hear about the various projects and agencies our Branch will be involved with this coming year.

 

Saturday, October 4

Local and State Initiatives on the Ballot.  Peggy Reeves will share information on key initiatives that we will need to vote on in November.  Also, Betty Moseley will update us on the Educational Foundation.

 

Saturday, November 1

Poverty in Fort Collins. Come and hear some of the positive efforts that are being made toward alleviating this problem by UniverCity, and by the Citywide Anti-Poverty Action Coalition, along with a viewing of the short film “The Other Side of Suburbia:  Poverty in Fort Collins," made by some concerned high school students. 

 

Saturday, December 6

Christmas Social.  A participatory/motivational humor program will be presented by Jill Taylor, Manager of the Aspen Club.  “Laughter clubs” began in India and have spread across the globe.  Jill has been trained as a Laughter Club presenter.

 

Saturday, February 7

Women of the Middle East. AAUW branch member Sandy Cooper will share her experiences while living in Saudi Arabia. Member Gloria Gleave will share information about her work with international students.  A suggested reading by members is “Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women” by Geraldine Brooks.  Janet Pugh will update us on LAF.

 

Saturday, March 7

A Woman’s View of Personal Finance.  Mary Ann V. Martin.  Dr. Martin is an AAUW member and an Eleanor Roosevelt Fellow.  As a licensed principal in the securities industry she will provide us with information relevant to women’s personal finances.

 

Saturday, April 4

SPRING BRUNCH AND LAF AUCTION.  Join us for fellowship and good fun at the brunch and silent auction.  Musical entertainment will be provided.

 

Saturday, May 2

Three women authors from Fort Collins will share their insights as writers.  Details provided closer to the meeting.
