AAUW, founded in 1881 with 65 members, is a national organization of 100,000 members. AAUW is a diverse group of educated people promoting equity for women, education and self-development over the life span and fostering social change.
The FORT COLLINS BRANCH of AAUW was started in 1921 by several college educated women of Fort Collins who wished to promote education in this community.
The Branch is the basic unit of AAUW. The Fort Collins Branch has both large and small group programs which are responsive to the wide variety of interests and talents of the members. The program is coordinated by the Program Development Committee Chairperson together with the Issues Chairperson and Area Representative. The Branch also maintains an active interest in the community. Branches promote the mission of the AAUW throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
International Federation: AAUW holds membership in the International Federation of Women, which unites association in 54 countries.

Region: The 50 states are divided into ten regions, each of which elects its own vice president to the Association Board of Directors. The Rocky Mountain Region consists of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada.
Fort Collins AAUW also has a current AAUW-Colorado State University Partnership.
AAUW Educational FoundationThe EF provides funds for education, research, and self-development for women. More than $2.5 million is awarded annually in fellowships and grants.
The Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) provides funds and a support system for litigation for women in higher education whose civil liberties and rights are infringed.
